Our Story

Jindo took center stage in 2020 when the government changed how we could gather and interact. With this shift in culture, human connection was deeply damaged. The world changed and we needed to change with it. This is our story. How Jindo became way more than music bingo could ever be.

A NEW SPARK FOR MUSIC BINGO

The idea for Jindo came to Josh in late 2018 when he was the DJ for an all-night party for a youth group. Event planner Jenny wanted to do musical bingo with the kids. So, Josh put together the playlists, printed up the cards and played a music bingo game with the group. The kids loved it!

After the game, Josh thought: “...since everyone is always on their phones anyway, why not have the game cards on the phones too?!” - and that’s how it all began.

These are some of the very first sketches outlining the Jindo platform and game card.

MUSIC BINGO REBORN AS JINDO

Now, it needed a name. Something FUN and catchy that could be shouted out like BINGO!

After trying combos of DJ bingo and music like: Binjo, DJingo, Mindo - and a few others that sounded like exotic animals. Lol. He went with Jindo.

Do you know that a Jindo is an exotic animal too? They’re cute little dogs from Korea. Check ‘em out!

So, Jindo had a name. Thanks to Josh’s buddy Denver, it had the basic proof of concept. However, it sat mostly idle in 2019 while Josh focused on his DJ career.

Before any designs were created a plain Jindo interface was created and tested as a proof of concept.

TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL

It was shortly after the New Year of 2020 that Josh decided to finally give Jindo some attention. He brought some sketches and ideas to design and design and branding wiz, Brandon, who created the logo and site. Then, Brandon connected Josh with tech pro John who - along with a small team in India - helped bring the basics to life.

Jindo was a fun little side project at that point. But, that all changed with the lockdowns and restrictions in March of 2020. The wedding and events industry was crushed. Deemed non-essential, Josh not only lost his ability to provide for his family - but his purpose too.

With cancellations pouring in - and extreme uncertainty about the future - Josh put his focus on Jindo. It gave him a purpose and belief when the outside world seemed to be crumbling. He began to Play Jindo in Zoom - from his dining room.

REALIZING THE JINDO EXPERIENCE

It was around this time that Shawn popped into the picture. Bryce, a mutual DJ friend, told Shawn about Jindo and he joined one of those early Jams. Then, another and another. Shawn saw the potential of Jindo right away and his belief helped Jindo move forward. They began to work together remotely; Shawn in Arizona & Oregon, Josh in Minnesota.

Throughout 2021 and into 2022, Shawn and Josh did their best to turn Jindo into something they could be proud of. Entrepreneurship has a steep learning curve. They made MANY mistakes, but continued to push forward, and develop Jindo into a tool that can serve our mission…
